2 Million Minutes

- The 2 US students rank high in there classes for US standards, but have no clue what they want to be
- The 2 Indian students are taking difficult courses and have there mind set to engineering
- The 2 Chinese students are taking very difficult courses and have a high chance of making it into chinas best universities with there minds preset on jobs
- I do homework that i need to do, when i need to and try to get it done soon so its easier to balance work and school along with relaxation
- My mom does not pressure me to be anything, she just wants me to do good in school then take whatever path i want in university/college
- I do not think anything i do is a waste of time, i just do things to waste time
- china put a man in space in 2003
- US students spend about 900 hours per year in a classroom and 1500 hours a year watching TV
- The silent crisis
- knowing multiple languages = power

Questions:
- I never start major projects as late as possible and i put as much time as i need to complete and check it over but i do not spend too much time
- I do not know exactly what my career will be, but somewhere in a very advanced technology field, i am prepared for up to 6 years of school after i graduate
- I can't really ask my parents too often for help in math or science due to the curriculum changing, but i do not generally need help in those subjects, but i can get help in english from my mom
- I do have goals, mainly trying to stay on the honor roll and try to do as good as possible in math/science and well in technology courses while still working as much as i can
- I do not generally do more then the required assignments unless i feel i need to and i make sure i understand everything clearly before i stop studying the subject
- My parents/other family members do not want me to do anything specific, they just want me to do good in school and and try as hard as i can in university to get a job that will really benefit me
- I work hard when i need to and don't when i don't need to
- I want to learn throughout my entire life
- I am a little concerned that people from other countries will try to take my university spots or jobs, but the path i am taking will hopefully put me ahead of them and i do not feel that the technology field will ever completely fill up in the more advanced areas
- I do not feel that being in flat classroom project has given me any global opportunities, but i now have the knowledge that i have to try very hard so i don't lose my job to someone from a different country

Digital Nation

  • Technology is trying to make our generation and our parents generation much more alike and trying to pull us together, but it is pulling us apart
  • Technology is turning into a major addiction in todays society, even in schools whether its gaming or social networking
  • Psychologically multitasking is impossible, your brain can not do more than 1 thing at a time
  • People who think they are very good at multi tasking, are actually slower than those who do 1 thing at a time without switching between tasks until finished
  • Most kids spend 50 hours a week with digital media, i would say i spend roughly this amount of ime using digital media but i have access to digital media constantly
  • A few people have died in internet cafe's due to gaming marathons without eating or drinking very much
  • I do console/computer game, a large variety of games, but not excessive amounts that I think I have a problem with gaming too much, but i do not think my mom enjoys me gaming in my free time
  • I first used the internet when i was roughly 6-7, maybe sooner, i can not remember exactly when i first used the internet
  • My mom knows how to use most of the internet and anything business related but i know a lot more about computers than her, my dad internet games himself and knows roughly what i do about computers
  • The world has sped up in a lot of ways, but education hasn't
  • Marc Prensky
  • If you don't keep up with technology a little bit, you will be really left behind
  • I have friends online that i have never met in various games that i have never met in real life
  • Industrial age vs. Digital economy
  • We currently have US pilots flying things called drones (basically robot aircrafts) fighting wars in Iraq at no cost to US lives and do the job with amazing precision
  • The US military is trying to teach and simulate war through virtual reality to kids between the ages 13 and 17 because hey can not recruit them
  • I feel that schools today are still okay, but because of the increase in technology we should add more technology for learning purposes to schools to enhance teaching to todays society

Google World

Google has one motto, and that motto is: "Don't be Evil".  Cloud computing is being able to access any information, at anytime and is constantly being updated as long as you have access to the internet, this makes it so you do not need any portable storage devices.  Larry page started working at 19 and founded google.  Google has 1 billion searches daily, and each search leaves a digital footprint on the person who searched it.  Google is trying to make a search engine with artificial intelligence.  Google is constantly taking satelite images of the earth and have street views which caused an outrage in some countries, but i do not feel like they are invading privacy since they cannot go into your house with a satelites camera.  Google provides books, news and videos through youtube, this has caused an outrage to authors, news industries and T.V/movie companies causing them to sue google due to a loss of income for them.  Most search engines use keywords to give you search results, Google uses the number of links to sites, making the sites more popular, therefore raising their rank in frequent searches.  The word google is a misspelled version of the word "goo-gol" meaning: 1 with 100 zero's after it.  Craig silverstein Was Google's first employee.  Google was first started in a Garage in california.

Social Networking

Social networking tends to play a fairly large role in overall communication in today's society.  To me social networking tends to consist of texting over anything on the computer due to the fact that i can do it mobile and people i need to talk to may not be on facebook at the same times as me which is very infrequently due to how much i actually use facebook.  I text nearly everyday whether its friends or family.  I tend to use texting as a way of talking to others rather then calling them, i just find it slightly easier and more convenient.  I do not IM to people around the world though, never have before therefore it will be new and interesting whenever we start to do it. I have had a phone for about 3 years, haven't texted too much until recently, but im starting to text less and less everyday. I only text my parents when I need permission or information for something for when they are not home.  If possible i try to talk to people face-to-face over texting, calling, computer, etc.  Overall social networking plays a big role in my life but not big enough i couldn't live without it.
